VNC "illegal" with Windows XP

Just though I'd point you to a copy of Windows XP EULA (end-user
licence agreement). Using VNC (without a licence for XP on the
viewing machine) is not permitted under this EULA. The relevant
bit is:

 Except as otherwise permitted by the 
 NetMeeting, Remote Assistance, and Remote Desktop 
 features described below, you may not use the Product 
 to permit any Device to use, access, display or run other 
 executable software residing on the Workstation Computer, 
 nor may you permit any Device to use, access, display, 
 or run the Product or Product's user interface, unless 
 the Device has a separate license for the Product.

Sorry it's not a Microsoft link, but for some strange reason,
MS are never very keen to publicise their EULAs.

Note that XP seems to include some VNC-like app (Remote Assistance/
Desktop?), so obviously they can't allow a competing product.

Whether the EULA is legally binding is anyone's guess. The big
corporations are pushing for laws all round the globe to make
them so. If you think this stinks, fight back. A good place
to start may be http://www.eff.org/
